Phendimetrazine

Phendimetrazine is used for:

The short-term management of obesity combined with a diet and exercise program.

Phendimetrazine is an anorectic. Exactly how Phendimetrazine works is unknown, although one of its effects is to decrease your appetite.

Do NOT use Phendimetrazine if:

• you are allergic to any ingredient in Phendimetrazine
• you have heart disease; glaucoma; an overactive thyroid; moderate, severe, or uncontrolled high blood pressure; or a history of drug abuse; or you are highly nervous or agitated.
• you are taking guanadrel or guanethidine, or you have taken furazolidone or a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (eg, phenelzine) within the last 14 days

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Phendimetrazine :

Some medical conditions may interact with Phendimetrazine . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

• if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
• if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
• if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
• if you have diabetes or high blood pressure

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Phendimetrazine . Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

• Furazolidone or MAOIs (eg, phenelzine) because the risk of severe high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, high fever, tremors, and seizures may be increased
• Guanadrel or guanethidine because their effectiveness may be decreased by Phendimetrazine

This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Phendimetrazine may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Phendimetrazine :

Use Phendimetrazine as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

• Take Phendimetrazine about 1 hour before meals. Take your last dose of the day at least 4 to 6 hours before bedtime.
• If you miss a dose of Phendimetrazine and you are taking it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Phendimetrazine .

Important safety information:

• Phendimetrazine may cause dizziness or blurred vision. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Phendimetrazine with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it.
• Do NOT take more than the recommended dose or use for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor.
• Some of these products may contain tartrazine dye (FD&C Yellow No. 5). This may cause an allergic reaction in some patients. If you have ever had an allergic reaction to tartrazine, ask your pharmacist if your product has tartrazine in it.
• Diabetes patients - Phendimetrazine may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely. Ask your doctor before you change the dose of your diabetes medicine.
• Tell your doctor or dentist that you take Phendimetrazine before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery.
• Phendimetrazine should not be used in CHILDREN younger than 12 years old; safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed.
• PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Phendimetrazine while you are pregnant. It is not known if Phendimetrazine is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you use Phendimetrazine , check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.

When used for long periods of time or at high doses, Phendimetrazine may not work as well and may require higher doses to obtain the same effect as when originally taken. This is known as TOLERANCE. Talk with your doctor if Phendimetrazine stops working well. Do not take more than prescribed.

When used for longer than a few weeks or at high doses, some people develop a need to continue taking Phendimetrazine . This is known as DEPENDENCE or addiction.

If you suddenly stop taking Phendimetrazine , you may experience WITHDRAWAL symptoms including extreme fatigue and depression.

Possible side effects of Phendimetrazine :

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

If OVERDOSE is suspected:

Symptoms may include coma; confusion; diarrhea; nausea; panic attack; rapid breathing; seizures; severe restlessness; stomach cramps; tremor; vomiting.

Store Phendimetrazine at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Brief storage at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Phendimetrazine out of the reach of children and away from pets.
